Isa has more than enough on her plate with two children and the household, which she manages on her own. When her husband persists with his wish for a third child, she realizes that something must change.
"It's always good to expand your cinematic horizon, having contact with movies and plots from different contexts than those we are used to. 'El despertar de las hormigas' is one of those opportunities, being a production from Costa Rica (in Central America). The story is centered on Isabel, a woman who suffers the pressure from her family to be the mother of a boy, but who also goes through a process of self-discovery - which makes the parallel with the metaphor of the ants in the title. Intimate and intelligent, it's a great surprise for those who like Latin American cinema."
