Why watch this film?
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, O'Dessa is a rock opera about a farm girl on a quest to recover a family heirloom. Her journey leads her to a dangerous city, where she must use the power of destiny and song to save her true love’s soul.
"O'Dessa is an ambitious film that blends elements of post-apocalyptic science fiction, rock opera, and romantic fantasy: imagine Phantom of the Paradise mixed with Blade Runner, Mad Max, Mandy, and an original soundtrack of rock and country themes. The plot follows a young farm girl (Sadie Sink from Stranger Things) who ventures into a strange city and meets the love of her life (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), whom she must save from a megalomaniacal ruler. Visually, it’s so wild that it’s charming for its sheer ambition, and both the music and the performances by Sink and Harrison are phenomenal. However, the plot is too simple to really develop any deep interest in the characters. If you’re looking for a fresh take to relive the feeling of ‘80s fantasies, regardless of plot complexity, this is an excellent choice for you. "
