When the progress of robotics makes Paralympic athletes the new sports stars, Maria dreams of competing against her sister. For that, she will have to enter a world of crime and violence.
"Bionic is an interesting endeavor from that Brazilian director who, alongside Fernando Meirelles, has best managed to build an international career: Afonso Poyart, known for Solace. In this project, distributed internationally by Netflix, the filmmaker mixes a Brazilian and foreign cast to depict a dystopian future where robotic prostheses dominate sports. It is here that two sisters compete in the long jump in a rivalry that leads down a sinister path. In this way, discussing bodily changes and without ever reaching the depth of Crash or Titane, Poyart creates his futuristic dystopia reflecting on the body, man as machine, and the limits of the human being."
