Shirley Chisholm makes a trailblazing run for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination after becoming the first Black woman elected to Congress.
"Shirley is an intimate portrayal of the pioneering political icon Shirley Chisholm (portrayed here by Regina King, from Ray and If Beale Street Could Talk), the first Black congresswoman and the first Black woman to run for President of the United States. The film depicts the personal cost this endeavor took on Shirley, as well as the behind-the-scenes of Chisholm's historic presidential campaign, based on extensive and exclusive conversations with family, friends, and those who knew her best. Alongside King, standout performances come from Terrence Howard (Crash) and Lance Reddick (from John Wick)."
