In a small town in Brazil afflicted by a severe drought, a local leader tries to change the political succession traditionally held between two parties, but he soon finds out that breaking apart from the established political circle is not always an easy alternative.
"'Curral' is a national drama that tells the story of Chico Caixa, played by Thomas Aquino (from 'Bacurau'), a humble former employee of a water distribution company in Gravatá, Pernambuco - a place that suffers from water scarcity. He is recruited by his childhood friend, Joel, a lawyer who needs to gather votes from a poor neighborhood to become a councilor. To win the election, the two use water supply as currency with the population, but everything gets out of control when Chico finds himself confronted between his financial needs and his moral principles. The film develops a concise drama around political artifices for social control so common in Brazil and, in several moments, it refers to 'Bacurau', reminding its social and political arc. 'Curral' was acclaimed outside Brazil, being awarded in two categories at the 46th Ibero-American Film Festival of Huelva, Spain. Highly praised, it is an extremely Brazilian film that deals with recurring themes in our country."
