In a small agricultural town in the Florida Everglades, hopes for the future are concentrated on the youth. Four teens face heartbreak and celebrate in the rituals of an extraordinary senior year.
"In the United States, where discrimination and inequality persist, the town of Pahokee in Florida stands out with an atmosphere of community and unity among its mostly African American, Latino, or Native American population. Despite the marginalization that comes with this, the local high school boasts a high success rate with its students. Presented at the 2019 Sundance, South by Southwest and Guanajuato film festivals, 'Pahokee' is a documentary that, with a changing structure and depth, tells the stories of four very diverse high schoolers struggling against the odds for their plans and dreams in a complicated social and economic landscape. Directed by filmmaking duo Yvette Lucas and Patrick Bresnan (who have made other award-winning short films about the same town, such as 'The Send-Off' and 'The Rabbit Hunt'), 'Pahokee' is the kind of movie that manages to emotionally involve the viewer with its characters, while illustrating how difficult it can be for residents of these communities to get ahead."
