Casino Royale

"This is one of those curious moments involving the adaptation of James Bond to the movies. Ian Fleming, the creator of the character, had sold the rights to his first book, 'Casino Royale' years before closing the deal with Eon Productions, which would result in the official franchise of the secret agent. These rights ran through Hollywood for a few years, until they resulted in this movie - which, in reality, is a parody of the spy movie fever started precisely by 007. The result of this is a production that, unfortunately, does not sustain its main goal of being humorous and that sounds quite dated for today's times. Now, if you overcome this barrier and watch out of curiosity, at least you will find a genuine product of the 1960s cinema and with a cast of familiar faces - including David Niven, Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, Woody Allen, Orson Welles, John Huston (who is also the co-director) and even Jean-Paul Belmondo. It may not be memorable, but it is a curious moment in Bond's trajectory and that deserves its place in history."
