A fictional account of one year in the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. On Christmas Eve 1877, Elisabeth, once idolized for her beauty, turns 40 and is officially deemed an old woman; she starts trying to maintain her public image.
"Starring the always great Vicky Krieps (Embrace Me Tightly), Corsage: The Rebel Empress is inspired by the true story of Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, who was known, among other things, for her obsession with maintaining a youthful and slim appearance, to the point of wearing excessively tight corsets and developing a very restrictive diet. The film takes an irreverent turn to what is expected of period biographical dramas in its approach to issues such as gender conformity, although it also maintains melancholic elements in its meditation on loneliness."
