Jacoba Ballard decided to take a DNA test one day, in hopes of finding one or two half-siblings with the same sperm donor. "Growing up, I felt different," she says in the documentary's trailer. But when she found seven matches, she realized that she had stumbled across a major discovery. Jacoba discovers a shocking scheme involving donor sperm and a popular fertility doctor.
"This is one of those documentaries that makes you question everything and be incredulous with humanity. 'Our Father?' brings the story of half-siblings discovering that their mother's fertility doctor is actually their biological father. Throughout the movie, following detailed statements about how their lives were transformed with this revelation, various points are made. Sperm donation is something "common", especially in the United States, but here it takes on many personal layers. The said doctor clearly knew what he was doing and did it several times, the motivation behind it is unknown. This is the greatest breach of trust that one can pass when trusting a gynecologist/obstetrician. It is a great documentary, as anguishing as this story may be."
