Why watch this film?
In this fun reimagined classic, Gulliver returns to Lilliput and discovers that the island's king is spreading the word that he was a giant. Now he will have to prove his worth again, even though he is a normal-sized man.
"It was in the 18th century that the book 'Gulliver's Travels' first hit the shelves. Written by Jonathan Swift, the children's novel became a landmark of the genre and crystallized the story of the man who arrives in the land of tiny people, the size of his thumb, in popular culture. Of course, over the last centuries, this story has been reinterpreted in various ways, just like the greatest and best-known fairy tales. In 'Gulliver Returns', a Ukrainian animation, filmmaker Ilya Maksimov imagines what the aftermath told in Swift's book would be like. Would Gulliver return to Lilliput? From there, the director plays with possibilities in a script that wants to humanize Gulliver and take away his fate as a giant - here, his size is just a metaphor for heroic feats. The animation is not meticulous and there are even evident technical problems. Nevertheless, the little ones should still have fun with this so traditional story being told from a new angle and with characters made to measure so that the very small children can have a connection with Gulliver's journey in tiny Lilliput."
