The marriage of Princess Diana (Kristen Stewart) and Prince Charles (Jack Farthing) has long since grown cold. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. But this year, things will be profoundly different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.
"As director Pablo Larraín ("Jackie") defines it: "Spencer" is not a biopic, but rather a fable based on real events - literally in this case, since we are talking about royalty. Unlike the 2013 feature "Diana" starring Naomi Watts, here we get to know a playful story about a part of Princess Diana's life - impeccably portrayed by Kristen Stewart. As in Larraín's other works, "Spencer" is a delicate and slow film that focuses heavily on scene compositions creating an impeccable cinematography. The director brought out a side of Diana that goes beyond what has been seen of her before, emphasizing her psychological side and how her relationship with the Royal Family was troubled. This caused several problems with her health. As the story develops around Diana, all eyes turn to Kristen Stewart. The actress delivers one of her best performances, if not the best of her career."
