Manuel and Lupe want to have a baby. When Manuel discovers he is infertile, he starts to fall apart both physically and emotionally. After exploring several options, Manuel turns to Rubén, his new friend, to act as their donor.
"From its premise, about the presence of a third person who completely transforms the dynamic of a marriage, 'Territorio' could seem like pure voyeurism. However, nothing could be further from the truth. The movie, the second by Mexican director Andrés Clariond ('Hilda'), never falls into exploitation, miserableness, or melodrama, but rather is entirely supported by the tensions between the characters in a deteriorating and eventually unsustainable situation. Along the way, the film also explores the behaviors and expectations of toxic masculinity at a somewhat lethargic pace, but sustained by the performances of its three protagonists (Paulina Gaitán is magnificent, as usual)."
