A young officer, Ivan Demarin, is sent to the depths of Siberia. Here Ivan meets his first love and, together with his regiment, finds himself drawn into a conspiracy by local princes, who are hunting for Yarkand's gold.

He, under the czar's instructions, is sent to the depths of Siberia - to the border with Tobolsk. There, Ivan finds his first love and, along with his regiment, is dragged into a conspiracy by local princes, who seek the gold of Yarkand. An interesting war movie, which mixes drama, history and romance in equal measures, and which shows how Russia also knows how to make good movies about its history and the mythology around the country."
