Tsé

"Tsé is the nickname of Tsecha Szpigel, a Polish woman who has a life worthy of a movie -- and it's no wonder it became one. Her life was turned upside down in her youth when World War II began and her whole family separated. Her father went to forced labor, her mother to a concentration camp, and she got lost in war-torn Poland. From there, she lived a zigzag life, fell in love, and eventually ended up in Brazil, running away from everything and everyone. This is what the documentary 'Tsé', directed by Fábio Kow, is about. As the biographer's grandson, he creates a hybrid documentary of genres, formats, and emotions. There are family archive scenes, watercolor reconstructions, and interviews with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, mainly. Nothing that makes the film very original or too far from didacticism, but there is a clear attempt by the filmmaker to escape the pattern that is made and seen everywhere in cinema. In the end, it's hard not to hold back tears and think of your own grandmother."
