The movie explores the role music played in the extraordinary life of one of the world's most important icons. From Nelson Mandela's imprisonment, to his release, to the present day celebrations of his legacy, the music born out of his inspirational journey is commented on by his closest friends, former exiled musicians, current international artists and community volunteers, who use music today to motivate and educate.
"Done as a tribute to Nelson Mandela, 'Music for Mandela' is a documentary that, at first, explores how the former South African political, activist and historical president, influenced by the humanistic philosophy of ubuntu, used music and dance as ideological and unifying tools against apartheid, when the mere mention of his name was banned in the country. Additionally, the film explores his impact and legacy, managing to convey the power of music to inspire, educate, liberate and unite humanity."
