The Old Guard

"In recent years, women have been gaining more and more prominence in action movies. Productions such as 'Atomic', 'The Punisher' and 'Mad Max' are just a few examples. Now, 'The Old Guard', an exclusive Netflix production, follows the same path. Drawing on science fiction and fantasy, director Gina Prince-Bythewood ('The Secret Life of Bees', 'Behind the Fame') strays from her traditional melodramas to embrace a plot that tries to follow the path of the recent 'Rescue', with action at its peak. As the protagonist, Charlize Theron, who also starred in the aforementioned 'Atomic' and 'Mad Max'. It's one of those movies to eat with a bucket of popcorn and soda, ready to hold your breath for a few moments. After all, everything works towards an intense and dynamic plot. Unfortunately, however, Prince-Bythewood exposes her inexperience in the genre in various moments, showing a lack of skill in conducting chase and fight scenes. There was much more potential here. Otherwise, Matthias Schoenaerts, KiKi Layne, Luca Marinelli and Chiwetel Ejiofor stand out in the cast."
