After their family emigrates from Colombia during the summer of ‘99, a metalhead science prodigy and his deviant younger brother do their best to adapt to new lives in America.
"Intense and brave, 'Blast Beat' is a film that stands out for its brute force, and both its qualities and flaws reside in it. The movie stars Moisés and Mateo Armas, real-life brothers and also in the movie, a detail that reserves natural layers of emotion to the dynamic. The story is about the two's family, who moves to the United States in search of a better life, and how they have to adjust to their new reality and deal with adversity and themselves. The movie develops interesting themes, and the brothers' chemistry carries the narrative with fluidity. The direction, however, especially in moments when the brothers are not the main focus, ends up weighing heavily. Still, a beautiful and original coming-of-age story."
