In the old city of Lahore where a fourteen-year old girl, Pari, dreams of becoming a pilot. Her story is told through the perspective of her six-year-old sister Mehr, who is unaware of the traditions and barriers that lay in the path of women from her family. It is a story about the burdens of a family and the impact of a culture where girls are still struggling to fully realize their dreams.
"Directed by Pakistani journalist, filmmaker and activist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (winner of two Oscars, for the short film 'A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness' and 'Saving Face'), 'Sitara: Let Girls Dream' is an animated short film that, despite taking place in the 1970s, tells us a story that remains very important and current, in which millions of girls are forced to marry. Even though the animation quality is close to that of more commercial films, it works very well here to convey the message - all without dialogue and through an expressive art direction."
