Trailer
Why watch this film?
Behind Vatican walls, the conservative Pope Benedict and the liberal future Pope Francis must find common ground to forge a new path for the Catholic Church.
"Directed by Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles ('City of God') and written by Anthony McCarten ('The Darkest Hour'), 'The Two Popes' is a biopic centered on one of the most important moments for Catholicism in the 21st century - centered on an unlikely meeting: not only the existence of two living popes, but one being conservative and the other more liberal. Highlight for the performances of its two giant protagonists, Anthony Hopkins ('The Silence of the Lambs') and Jonathan Pryce ('The Wife') give this biographical drama a surprising dose of good humor, although it is not the type of movie you want to see if you are looking for a more faithful dramatization of real events. It is certainly one of Netflix's bets for the 2019-2020 awards season."
