Why watch this film?
After a plane crash, four indigenous children fight to survive in the Colombian Amazon relying on ancestral wisdom as a desperate rescue mission unfolds.
"The Lost Children (Los niños pedidos) is a Netflix documentary co-directed by Orlando von Einsiedel (Oscar winner for The White Helmets), Lali Houghton (Convergence: Courage in a Crisis) and Jorge Durán (Broken Idol: The Undoing of Diomedes Diaz). The film recounts an event that shook Colombia in 2023: the crash of a small plane in the Amazon, which was carrying a family of indigenous origin, and the desperate search for the four children, the only survivors of the accident. Beyond the tense situation itself, the case is notable for the collaboration between the Colombian military and the indigenous peoples of the country, whose wisdom was crucial in the search, despite their strong opposition to the armed forces. This dynamic is addressed more intelligently in a similar documentary, Operation Hope: The Children Lost in the Amazon. However, if you're unfamiliar with the matter, this Netflix version offers a fascinating account of the events."
