Trailer
Why watch this film?
This dramatized retelling of the Krahô people's oral histories depicts injustices against Indigenous Brazilians and their resistance across generations.
"The Buriti Flower (A Flor do Buriti) is a Brazilian film that blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction, with directors Renée Nader Messora and João Salaviza collaborating with their actors, indigenous people from the Krahô tribe, to explore their rich past and history. The film examines three periods in the history of this indigenous people living in the Brazilian Amazon, who have been resisting persecution for years to maintain their freedom and way of life. Winner of an award for its cast at the Cannes Film Festival, the film manages to close the distance with the viewer without losing respect for its protagonists, shedding much-needed light on their story."
