Why watch this film?
Rome, 1940. Delia plays the roles of wife and mother exclusively, while her husband, Ivano, is a violent head of the family. When she receives a mysterious letter, the woman begins to imagine a better future.
"There's Still Tomorrow is the feature directorial debut of Italian actress Paola Cortellesi. Set shortly after World War II, the plot follows a worn-out and disheartened woman (Cortellesi) who juggles multiple jobs to pay the bills, endures the abuse of her husband, deals with the stress of her two obnoxious children, grapples with vague hopes for the future of her young daughter (Romana Maggiora Vergano), and regrets a love that never was. It’s a melodrama that incorporates elements of farce and nods to Italian Neorealist Cinema – from the era in which it’s set – to discuss a topic that, interestingly, wasn’t often addressed in films of that time: women’s rights and their future in a deeply traditional and patriarchal country, even to this day."
