Why watch this film?
In the late 1980s, journalist José de Zer seeks proof of alien life in Argentina — even if he has to fake evidence — causing a surreal media circus.
"The Man Who Loved UFOs (El hombre que amaba los platos voladores) is an Argentine film directed by Diego Lerman (The Substitute) and selected for the San Sebastián Film Festival. Its story is based on the journalist José de Zer, who traveled to Córdoba in 1986 to report on a supposed UFO sighting. Drawing from this true story about something that wasn’t quite so, Lerman and co-writer Adrián Biniez use humor to raise questions about collective imagination and the fabrication of 'truth' in pursuit of ambition and spectacle, interesting for taking place in an era prior to digital media, yet revealing the same susceptibility of the audience to manipulation."
