Kemonito, the mascot of the Mexican World Wrestling Council, has been trying to retire for years due to his many injuries, but his financial problems don't allow him to.
"Kemonito: The Final Fall (Kemonito: La última caída) is a short documentary nominated for the Ariel Award (the "Oscar" of Mexican cinema) and selected at prestigious Mexican film festivals such as Guanajuato and Ambulante. Over the course of 23 minutes, we follow the life of Mexican professional wrestler and mascot of the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, Kemonito (real name: Jesús Juárez Rosales), as he faces the final stages of a physically demanding career. He seeks retirement due to his advanced age and multiple injuries but is unable to do so due to his precarious financial situation. Though short, Kemonito: The Final Fall is a powerful documentary that sheds light on the economic insecurity and lack of social safety nets affecting much of the Mexican population, including professional athletes who enjoy popularity, fame, and public affection."
