Apartment 7A

"Apartment 7A is a prequel to the classic horror film Rosemary's Baby, directed by Roman Polanski, although it does not directly draw from any text by the author of the original novel, Ira Levin. Also set in 1965, this story follows a minor but significant character from the first film: Terry Gionoffrio (played here by Ozark's Julia Garner), a dancer who arrives in New York with great hopes, which are dashed when she breaks her foot. Vulnerable, she is taken in by her neighbors, the Castevets, whose intentions shift from innocent to suspicious and terribly sinister. Despite strong performances from Garner and Dianne Wiest as the unsettling Minnie Castevet, Apartment 7A doesn't offer much new in terms of story, and despite solid direction, it is so laden with references to Polanski's classic that it is unlikely to surprise those familiar with it. However, there are some genuinely terrifying sequences that could justify the nearly two-hour investment."
