Mikaël is a doctor on night call. He looks after patients from underprivileged neighborhoods, as well as drug addicts. Torn between his wife and his mistress, and embroiled in trafficking fraudulent prescriptions, Mikaël is left with no choice: tonight, he has to reclaim control over his life.
"Selected for the cancelled Cannes Film Festival 2020 and also nominated in the Best Actor category at the César Awards 2022, 'Médecin de nuit' tells the complex story of Mikael, a married man with children who, by vocation, also works as an emergency doctor at night, taking care of patients from a lower social class. But he leads a double life, collaborating with his pharmacist cousin and forging opioid prescriptions - helping addicts, but getting ever closer to the underworld of crime. It is a French film with a deep inspiration in film noir and with a fascinating central character, who spends most of the time caught between complicated ethical conflicts. It is certainly not easy to watch, but the excellent performances of the actors, wonderful camera work and urgent opioid crisis themes have made it a movie you won't forget anytime soon."
