Why watch this film?
During World War I, a group of British miners are recruited to tunnel underneath no man's land and set bombs from below the German front in hopes of breaking the deadly stalemate of the Battle of Messines.
"An intimate portrait of World War I, in which a group of British miners dig tunnels beneath to plant bombs on the German front, in the hope that the Battle of Messines will come to an end. Very different from Sam Mendes' '1917', in this epic we follow another part of the conflict, focusing on those who sacrificed themselves so that the war would end. The result is an extremely emotional production. 'The War Below' is directed by J.P. Watts, making his debut in feature-length film direction and delivering an extremely well-done work."
