Warcraft

"There seems to be a curse hovering over Hollywood when studios decide to bring video game adaptations to the big screen. The past formed by titles such as 'Assassin's Creed', 'Mario Bros.' and 'Tomb Raider' shows that these adventures have not been successful, with results below average. 'Warcraft' thankfully escapes this a bit - even though it falls into common mistakes in adaptations of this type. Here, filmmaker Duncan Jones ('Moon', 'Source Code') draws inspiration from 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Chronicles of Narnia' to try to create a medieval epic that shows a clash between creatures and humans. There is strength, especially in the first half, when this fantasy shows strength and the adapted mythology gains momentum with a script aligned by Jones and Charles Leavitt ('Those Who Wish Me Dead'). It is an above-average video game adaptation, mainly due to the fantasy element that excites. But again: given the quality of the game and the possibilities on the horizon, it could have been a much better movie. The best thing is to forget the original product and embark on the story as if it were an epic born there, from scratch."
