"Initially, 'What Happened to Mr Cha?' may put off some by its cheesy look. Even a bit unintentional from the promotional material -- reminiscent of those B-grade productions from the 1980s involving obscure characters and heroes. However, nothing of the sort. This Korean production surprises by exploring aspects of a celebrity's life. In this case, of the said Mr Cha, an actor in decline who needs to analyze his life and better understand who he has become. It's not an inventive film or one that will cause commotion. But still, the good character drama and director Dong-kyu Kim's naturalistic direction surprise and move."
