Jacinta, an Andean indigenous woman, returns to Chongomarca, with the mission of finding her husband, Wasaberto. On his return, he finds that a multinational construction company will build a hotel in what is his modest house.
"Created by Jorge Benavides, 'La Paisana Jacinta' is a character born in the namesake Peruvian television comedy program broadcast between 1999 and 2002, and revived as a sketch in the program 'El Wasap de JB' in 2014. Similarly to the character of India María (María Elena Velasco) in Mexico, Jacinta's character is built around stereotypes of Andean indigenous peoples, and 'La Paisana Jacinta: en búsqueda de Wasaberto' does little to change that perception of the character. Therefore, it should be viewed for what it is, a story starring a satirical character that was popular in its time, and whose stereotypes can be questioned from the distance of time."
