Why watch this film?
In 1894, French Captain Alfred Dreyfus is wrongfully convicted of treason and sentenced to life imprisonment at Devil's island.
"Winner of the critics' and jury awards at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, 'J'accuse' is a legal and biographical drama from Polish filmmaker Roman Polanski ('The Pianist'). The film is inspired by Robert Harris' homonymous novel which, in turn, is based on the true story of the Dreyfus Affair, a political scandal in France at the end of the 19th century. The director offers us serious reflections on the scope of justice and the State, in one of the most important cases in history about judicial error and anti-Semitism, in which human rights were sacrificed in favor of the survival of the government. This is the attention to detail in this drama, with solid performances from Jean Dujardin ('The Artist'), Mathieu Amalric ('The Blue Room') and Louis Garrel ('A Faithful Man'), which take a back seat to the controversies surrounding Polanski himself."
