Why watch this film?
During a brief visit to Paris, Alexandre meets Mila, the daughter of his mother’s new partner, and invites her to a party. The next day, Mila files a complaint against Alexandre for rape, destroying family harmony and setting in motion an inextricable media-judicial machine that posits opposing truths.
"'Les choses humaines' is based on Karine Tuil's 2019 novel of the same name and premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. Director Yvan Attal takes on the task of adapting this story which brings the theme of rape to both cinema and literature. Outstanding performances, especially from Charlotte Gainsbourg. Despite having a male director, the film has great layers, in addition to the weight of the human dimension, as we follow the story of a boy who is accused of raping a girl. The plot explores and questions what consent is and how fluid and tortuous this concept can be. The ending does not provide a solid answer, which is even more intriguing, providing material for even greater reflection."
