The Godfather is a "bedtime movie" for any movie lover, a masterpiece directed by Francis Ford Coppola and an accurate analysis of the mafia and Italian immigration in the United States. Not only did it influence subsequent works and become one of the best movies of all time, it was also one of the first responsible for bringing Hollywood back to its golden years.
Among Woody Allen's enormous filmography, 'Annie Hall: Two Strange Lovers' still stands as the crown jewel. To this day it is still considered the mold for great romantic comedies, and in its time it brought freshness to the genre by honestly presenting issues such as insecurity, vulnerability, and sex. Annie's role, written specifically by Allen for her, is one of the most iconic of the legendary actress, who won an Oscar for this movie (which also won awards for best picture, best director, and best screenplay).
Although it doesn't innovate too much in terms of the typical romantic comedy formula, Something's Gotta Give had the novelty (at the time) of focusing on an older couple. However, it helps a lot that it has two true legends as protagonists: each and every scene between Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson is glorious.
Love the Coopers is a holiday ensemble comedy that tells the intertwined stories of four generations of a family preparing to reunite for Christmas, facing the personal obstacles of organizing such a festive dinner. It's a very conventional holiday film, so it may not be the best choice if you're looking for something different for the season. However, with a wonderful cast led by John Goodman, Diane Keaton, Alan Arkin, June Squibb, and a very young Timothée Chalamet, it’s one of those films that becomes highly entertaining thanks to its great performances.
