Why watch this film?
"Eighth Grade" explores the anxiety and transformations that Generation Z adolescents go through, who have never known a world without the internet, touching on topics such as sexting, selfies, and the emotional dependence involved with social media. The protagonist, played by Elsie Fisher (who was nominated for a Golden Globe for the role), is a 13-year-old girl who produces videos nobody watches on YouTube, while living the dichotomy between what she would like to be and what she really is, not valuing her qualities while trying to fit in the standards imposed by the social context. It's the fictional feature directing debut of comedian and actor Bo Burnham, who started out as a YouTuber and became famous to the general public with productions like "Eighth Grade," and the final result is extremely praiseworthy. This is a must-see for everyone, since everyone knows the pains, joys, and worries of being 13--especially those who are going through it now or have children going through it.

Bo Burnham: Inside
Bo Burnham is a remarkable comedian who has been gaining attention in recent years and has shown himself to be a name to be followed. He has also been standing out in the audiovisual medium where he acted in some films, most recently the Oscar-nominated 'Bela Vingança', and wrote and directed the sensitive teenage drama 'Eighth Grade'. In 'Inside', Bo takes a look at a perspective that has been widely shared during the pandemic: being inside the house, with few prospects. He directs, writes, acts, films, composes music and edits the special. Despite the apparent randomness, in fact he plans everything meticulously, creating an implicit order in chaos- in a previous special of his, 'Make Happy', Bo talks about the importance of creating naturalness in a stand-up and how in fact everything is carefully planned, and that is exactly what we can observe here. Sympathetic, funny and extremely relatable, 'Bo Burnham: Inside' is a light, pleasant and intelligent choice for everyone, especially those who spend the pandemic inside the house.

Shrooms
Follows Dan, a young Venezuelan man currently living in Lisbon, who collects magic mushrooms in the forest and distributes them in the city to those in need of help - like a New Age Robin Hood - using pigeons as carriers.

The Great Escaper
The Great Escaper is a film inspired by a moving true anecdote and is notable for featuring the final performances of the legendary Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. The story is about a World War II veteran who, unable to join a trip to France to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day in 2014, decides to escape from the nursing home and go on his own. This initiates a parallel narrative between Bernie's journey and what his wife Rene experiences at the nursing home. Although somewhat superficial, the film presents reflections on the ways war is typically portrayed—and idealized—in cinema. However, it manages to avoid cheap sentimentality, thanks largely to the phenomenal performances of its unparalleled leads.

This Closeness
This Closeness might best be described as a film in the lineage of mumblecore. Directed by indie filmmaker Kit Zauhar (who has already garnered similar acclaim for Actual People), the film is about a young couple in crisis who, over a weekend, rent a room in the apartment of another lonely man, who becomes an unwilling witness to their lives and problems. It's a small and extremely intimate film, about three characters who enter into a negotiation over privacy, where intimacy becomes a weapon and spaces, as well as sound, turn into battlefields both emotional and erotic.
