MoviePass, MovieCrash is an HBO documentary that, as the title suggests, explores the story of the rise and catastrophic fall of MoviePass, the innovative cinema subscription service in the United States. What really happened? While it follows the formula of typical "talking heads" documentaries, where stakeholders parade in front of the camera giving their testimonies, the documentary hits the nerve by presenting the questionable business decisions made by certain company members, encouraged by a financial system that fosters greed and does not allow fair access to financing for all citizens. In other words, MoviePass, MovieCrash is not just the gossip behind the failure of a potentially groundbreaking company: it is also a critique of the unequal, cynical, and sometimes idiotic business and financial culture of the United States.

As the title gives away, the production speaks of the racial "storm" in Brooklyn, a populous division of New York City in 1989. Despite speaking of something that has been fomenting for over three decades, it is a very current documentary - unfortunately. Focusing on the death of a 16-year-old black boy, Hawkins was shot by young people from a mostly white neighborhood in Brooklyn. However, we have seen this fact repeated over the years and also with deaths caused by police officers. The coronavirus pandemic has left us with few distractions and the presence of productions like this one are accurate, it is the ideal moment to address serious topics. With a careful style, director Muta'Ali Muhammad has done a detailed and necessary job.

Michael Powell and Emerich Pressburger might be, in very simple terms, the most influential and innovative filmmakers from England—and the world—whose work is least discussed today: it's quite likely you've only just heard of them. Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger is the perfect introduction to the work and legacy of the duo, collectively known as "The Archers," with the best possible guide: Martin Scorsese, one of their great advocates (and eventual personal friend of Michael Powell) and one of the filmmakers most inspired by their vision. As presenter, narrator, and producer, Scorsese provides a comprehensive tour of the filmmakers' trajectory, avoiding idealization but analyzing the impact and influence of the artists behind iconic and unique English films such as A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus, and The Red Shoes, misunderstood in their time but re-evaluated by later critics and filmmakers. Perhaps the only fault of the documentary is that it doesn't reach the inspired heights of its subjects. But that would be asking too much, as it achieves its valuable purpose: to inspire us to revisit the films of two true legends.

In addition to interviews with the Swiss player, the feature film also incorporates elements of observational documentary, placing the viewer at the heart of the action with behind-the-scenes footage from Federer's final days in the sport.
