Why watch this film?
The movie 'Prime Time', selected and shown at the Sundance Festival, is very reminiscent of the mediocre 'Money Game' with George Clooney. After all, the plot is the same: someone invades a TV studio and starts making demands. In this Netflix exclusive production, Polish director Jakub Piatek shows details of a terrorist attack on a TV channel on the turn of the year 1999. Directly to the point, the movie quickly gains energy with the story, full of suspense and tension. Unfortunately, this strength falls near the end, when the story seems to have no more strength to follow the director's vigor. Still, it's a good sample of a Polish thriller, far from the usual.

A Quiet Place: Day One
A Quiet Place: Day One is a prequel that expands the narrative of A Quiet Place into new genres and characters. There's none of the Abbott family (John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and company) here, as the story is set at the very start of the ultrasonic-sensing alien invasion. We now follow Sam (Lupita Nyong'o), a woman with terminal cancer who is in New York City when the disaster begins. With the world coming to an end, she decides she has nothing to lose, so she ventures through the silenced city in search of the one thing she wants. Though more inclined towards the realms of action and disaster cinema, this prequel presents a surprisingly existential and moving story, with great performances from its protagonists (with Joseph Quinn of Stranger Things completing the duo). It doesn’t break new ground in apocalyptic films, but it does manage to find humanity in a franchise that already felt tired in its second installment.

Son of No One
Al Pacino co stars in this movie about a young cop (Channing Tatum of DEAR JOHN, STOP-LOSS) who is assigned to a precinct in the Queens neighborhood where he grew up. To provide for his wife (Katie Holmes of DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, BATMAN BEGINS) and ailing daughter, he works hard to keep his life on track. But this life is threatened when a dark secret bubbles to the surface. An anonymous source reveals new information about the unsolved murder of two boys and a possible police cover-up, setting off a chain of events that rattles the neighborhood. Also stars Juliette Binoche, Ray Liotta, and Tracy Morgan.

Something in the Water
An idyllic wedding trip turns into a nightmare for a group of friends when, stranded on an island with no way back to land, they are attacked by a shark. Something in the Water is a survival thriller that adds to the ever-growing canon of killer shark movies, without really bringing anything new. However, if you enjoy these tense survival stories in extreme situations, you're sure to enjoy it.

Under Paris
The killer shark movie subgenre gets a French addition with Under Paris. The plot follows a scientist (Bérénice Bejo, from The Artist) who must confront her tragic past and find a solution when the presence of a violent shark is discovered in the Seine River, shortly before a major triathlon. It's a film with a outlandish premise (like so many of its shark movie counterparts), though never ridiculous or comedic: it falls more into the territory of a conventional thriller than the comedy of Sharknado. Predictable, but if you enjoy these kinds of movies, you'll find it entertaining.
