Plot summary
From the creators of Coraline and ParaNorman comes a magical family adventure about heroes in all shapes and sizes: the Boxtrolls. The Monkey King
An animated co-production between the United States and China, exclusive to Netflix, inspired by the 16th century Chinese novel "Journey to the West" (which, among other things, is deeply rooted in Chinese folk religion and inspired Dragon Ball's original incarnation). "The Monkey King" is essentially an adventure movie that follows its titular character on his journey to overcome a series of trials and thus find his place amongst the gods. Its frantic pace - especially in the third act - may be too much for less patient viewers, but younger audiences seeking a colorful and fun adventure will find what they're looking for here.

The Wild Robot
The Wild Robot is yet another demonstration that DreamWorks has what it takes to be one of the animation studios offering films that go beyond mere entertainment, turning them into heartfelt works of art (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was already another sign of this). Based on the children's book of the same name by Peter Brown, the film tells the story of "Roz" (voiced by Lupita Nyong'o), a service robot who awakens on an island with no humans, inhabited only by animals and nature, without knowing how or why she got there. She ends up having to care for a gosling (voiced by Kit Connor) with the help of a fox (voiced by Pedro Pascal), and she must learn to become part of nature. It's a sweet story about finding purpose and learning to respect all forms of life in the world, similar in some ways to Pixar's WALL-E, but with a more innovative animation style that blends 3D elements and traditional animation to mimic the look of a book's illustrations. Sometimes it stumbles with a bit of indulgence in action, and there are underlying questions to be raised – it's one thing in the written language of the book, but why do we always imagine nurturing and protective characters as feminine? Nonetheless, The Wild Robot is a visually stunning film that embraces the heart. One of DreamWorks' best.
Transformers One
Transformers One is an animated film that breathes new life into the franchise, which spent many years under the direction of Michael Bay's explosions and slow-motion shots. Here, the universe is reimagined from the origins of the Autobots and Decepticons, offering a clearer explanation of how these two factions emerged in a world of cars that transform into robots. It’s a creative origin story that gives fans a compelling glimpse into a world without Mark Wahlberg, Megan Fox, and other humans, focusing entirely on the machines. While it lacks boldness and originality, falling behind other adult animations like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Transformers One still tells an exciting story that shifts the tone of the franchise and leaves audiences wanting more by the end.
