Nobody's Fool
This is a romantic comedy that has its funny moments, largely due to a star-studded cast including Tiffany Haddish ('Girls Trip') and Whoopi Goldberg (who needs no introduction, right?). Unfortunately, the end result is uninspired and confusing. It's worth it for the good laughs, thanks largely to the impeccable acting of the protagonists.

This movie is written and directed by Tyler Perry, considered one of the most influential directors, producers, and actors in cinema, television, and theater in the United States (creator, among other things, of the character Madea and her long series of films). 'A Fall from Grace' follows the structure of a procedural thriller, so be prepared to witness an entire case from investigation (and the discovery of dark secrets) to the trial itself, in the style of the classic series 'Law & Order'. The cast is made up of stars such as Crystal Fox ('Big Little Lies'), Phylicia Rashad ('Creed') and Mehcad Brooks ('Supergirl'), among others, who present performances at the level of intensity required by the script.
A Madea Homecoming
The successful comedian Tyler Perry returns here to Madea, a character who began her journey in theater in 1999 and who in 2005 got the cinematic version in 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman'. In 'A Madea Homecoming', which carries the exclusive Netflix seal, we follow the character preparing to receive the family at her grandson's graduation. Of course, Perry returns to play the lovable mama and also Joe. Again, the story guarantees good laughs with a fun script. If you want to watch something lively and light, this is the choice.
A Jazzman's Blues
Tyler Perry, director of 'The Limit of Betrayal' and a very well-known actor from the Madea franchise, takes on the role here of bringing a period drama. Set in the American South after World War II, we follow a young black jazz musician in search of success. The film spans a period of 50 years, giving a deep dive into the tragic lives and situations that shape their lives. Perry does very well with the melodrama and creates a great involvement of the viewer. It is a dense and intriguing historical production.
Mea Culpa
A psychological thriller by Tyler Perry (director of A Fall From Grace and the Madea films). Mea Culpa follows an ambitious criminal defense lawyer (Kelly Rowland, former member of Destiny’s Child) who takes on the controversial case of a charismatic artist (Trevante Rhodes, Moonlight) accused of murdering his girlfriend. However, as she delves into his world, his case, and his life, the lines between professionalism, friendship, and eroticism begin to blur, with fatal consequences. Although at times it aspires to the status of old erotic thrillers from the '80s and '90s (it even seems like an inverted version of Basic Instinct or Fatal Attraction), it doesn't reach those levels. However, if you're looking for something in that style, Mea Culpa might be for you.

Como el mar is an Argentine film where a young woman, Azul (Zoe Hochbaum), discovers that her supposed older sister (Sofía Gala Castiglione) is actually her biological mother, and the mother who has just died was really her grandmother. Seeking answers about her father, they embark on a journey to Uruguay, where they must transform their bond. This road movie moves at a slow, contemplative pace, focusing more on exploring feelings than events, which may seem too simplistic for those looking for complex dramas. However, it's an emotional film, and the performance of the legendary Carmen Maura (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) is definitely worth watching.
My First Film
Many filmmakers spend their lives trying to sustain their creative careers, unaware of their missteps. In My First Film, the debut feature of director Zia Anger (who has created videos for artists like Mitski and Beach House), we see the opposite: a filmmaker who looks back and reconstructs what went wrong in her disastrous first attempt when she was younger. Past and present blend with reality and fiction (featuring artists like Odessa Young), in a film that recreates not just events but emotions. There are many meta and revisionist films, but My First Film is the most fascinating since 2018's Shirkers, at the very least.
