Plot summary

Amidst her struggles, she meets Dagmar, a charismatic woman running a hidden adoption agency within a candy store, helping poor mothers in finding foster homes for their unwanted children.

There are several movies that talk about the problems of hyperconnectivity. It starts with the seminal issue in 'The Social Network', passing through provocative documentaries such as 'The Dilemma of Networks' and 'The Great Hack' and even productions that move into suspense or some "genre" story, like 'Ingrid Goes West'. But one of the good surprises about this topic is 'Sweat', or 'Suor'. Directed and written by Magnus von Horn, the movie follows the story of Sylwia (Magdalena Kolesnik), a young Polish woman who is a success on social networks. She has almost 600 thousand followers and has become a reference in Poland when it comes to care, health, physical exercise and well-being. However, in intimacy, things are not going so well. She has no boyfriends, no great friends and everything around her seems fake, fragile and shallow. Thus, following a path more 'Ingrid Goes West' and 'Rust' than 'The Dilemma of Networks', von Horn's film is not so concerned with talking about the medium and about social networks. The concern of 'Sweat' is more focused on observing and allowing the viewer to dive into the lives of those who seem to have a perfect daily life, without flaws. Does this really exist? Is there real life, with pain and depression, behind the Instagram filters?

Como el mar is an Argentine film where a young woman, Azul (Zoe Hochbaum), discovers that her supposed older sister (Sofía Gala Castiglione) is actually her biological mother, and the mother who has just died was really her grandmother. Seeking answers about her father, they embark on a journey to Uruguay, where they must transform their bond. This road movie moves at a slow, contemplative pace, focusing more on exploring feelings than events, which may seem too simplistic for those looking for complex dramas. However, it's an emotional film, and the performance of the legendary Carmen Maura (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) is definitely worth watching.
My First Film
Many filmmakers spend their lives trying to sustain their creative careers, unaware of their missteps. In My First Film, the debut feature of director Zia Anger (who has created videos for artists like Mitski and Beach House), we see the opposite: a filmmaker who looks back and reconstructs what went wrong in her disastrous first attempt when she was younger. Past and present blend with reality and fiction (featuring artists like Odessa Young), in a film that recreates not just events but emotions. There are many meta and revisionist films, but My First Film is the most fascinating since 2018's Shirkers, at the very least.
