Why watch this film?
This French drama full of tension stars Mathieu Amalric (from 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Munich') and is directed by Benoît Jacquot (from 'Farewell, My Queen' and 'Three Hearts'). Loosely based on the book 'The Body Artist', the feature deals with the issue of love, loss and how those we love remain in our memory and our lives. The result is a quite spiritual account.

Diary of a Chambermaid
Another great performance from Léa Seydoux, now in the role of a manipulative, bitter, and sardonic chambermaid. The art direction is also impeccable, placing us in the 19th century.

Farewell, My Queen
The French Revolution is one of the most important moments in human history, something studied by all of us since school time. However, this movie proposes a different look on the beginning of this revolution, precisely that of a young employee of the court. A great portrait of how power became isolated from the people, which led to the end of the French monarchy.

Casanova, Last Love
Giacomo Casanova is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating figures of the 18th century, entering into history as the most famous seducer that ever existed. It is no wonder that the Venetian has already been the subject of several films (how to forget 'Fellini's Casanova' or 'Casanova' with Heath Ledger). Here, the character is played by Vincent Lindon ('The Value of a Man'), slightly based on the time when Casanova fled to England from Paris, when he was older and depressed. Stacy Martin ('The Formidable') plays a woman who manages to do what few could: be the only one in Casanova's heart. For all these reasons, it is not exactly the Giacomo Casanova you are used to, but it is still interesting to see the figure in a different moment of life. The direction is by Benoît Jacquot ('Farewell, My Queen'), who leads an impeccable period reconstruction. 'Dernier amour' (The Last Love of Casanova) is the title.

Suzanna Andler
Suzanna Andler (Charlotte Gainsbourg) is a woman trapped in her terrible marriage who must choose between continuing her life as a wife and mother or her freedom. Set in the 1960s, the film focuses on the weight of our choices and how it increases when you are not a man, who can easily leave his wife, children, and whatever else he pleases. The production is a cinematic adaptation of Marguerite Duras' homonymous play, scripted and directed by Benoît Jacquot ('Farewell, My Queen'). If you want something more dynamic, it is important to note that 'Suzanna Andler' has many and long dialogues. If you can get past that, you will find beautiful cinematography and great performances, with Gainsbourg standing out for her portrayal of her character's existential crises.

The Book of Solutions
'The Book of Solutions' is a film by French filmmaker Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) that addresses the complications of creative work, especially in the world of cinema. The plot follows Marc (Pierre Niney, A Perfect Man), a filmmaker whose new movie is in chaos: it's over budget, lacks a clear vision, and the investors are restless. When the studio finally wrests control of the film from him, he responds by taking the computers, disks, and his collaborators to his aunt's country house, where he intends to finish the film on his own terms... if only he could stop procrastinating, shirking his responsibilities, and starting a thousand new tasks. Following Gondry's typical playful, surreal, and music video-like visual style, the movie draws inspiration from his bad experience directing Mood Indigo a decade earlier, which the director himself describes as "megalomaniacal." Perhaps he hasn't fully recovered: this film is as indulgent and unfocused as the experience that inspired it. However, there are very fun ideas and good visual comedy. If you enjoy the French filmmaker's previous work, you'll like this one.
