Why watch this film?
A dying gendarme remembers his encounter with Catalan artist Josep Bartolí in a French concentration camp after the Spanish Civil War.
"This French animation is of an unparalleled delicacy, hard to see around. Work of more than a decade of director Aurel, 'Josep' takes advantage of almost cartoonish strokes to tell the story of Josep Bartolí, a Catalan artist who was imprisoned in concentration camps in France after the Spanish Civil War. Poetic, his journey in these camps and the friendship with a French guard - fictional, but which serves as a conductor of the narrative in the story - drive the story, full of emotion and impactful moments. Also noteworthy is the unconventional format that Aurel found to put the drawings on the screen, creating a mixture of styles and playing with metalinguistic in some moments."
